Juvare Case Study

Wood UK Ltd. Uses WebEOC To Increase Efficiency and Improve Workflows

Every industry has its own set of needs and requirements to meet the challenges of emergency and crisis management. The energy industry is replete with risks to health and safety, and because of those risks, companies take great efforts to find solutions that give them the most flexibility and capabilities to manage emergency response processes.

Wood UK Ltd, based in Aberdeen, Scotland was looking for an emergency management solution to replace several legacy IT components, paper-based processes and to better manage its ‘rotas’ – rotational scheduling of emergency stakeholder personnel. After identifying and assessing nearly a dozen different solutions, they chose to implement Juvare’s WebEOC platform.

With the new Juvare solution, the company experiences greater efficiency in managing emergency processes during and after an incident. Wood is also anticipating significant cost savings by reducing administrative burdens. They are able to communicate more effectively with emergency personnel, leadership, employees, and media. The solution also allows greater capability to comply with regulatory requirements. Wood is finding the WebEOC platform is easier to use, both for incidents and on a day-to-day basis, which improves employee ownership in performing their duties.

Background

Energy exploration and production is one of the highest risk and most heavily regulated industries in the world. Companies working across the energy industry such as Wood routinely operate in the most harsh and remote locations. Day-to-day operations can be hazardous not only from accidents inherent to the industrial space, but also from the extreme areas in which energy companies operate. Working on windswept rigs in the North Sea, there are constant threats to employees and facilities. Over the years, the industry has suffered a number of high-profile incidents, such as oil spills and platform incidents.

Consolidation amongst energy services players in the industry in recent years has created a governance challenge which has led to a greater need for information management solutions that help integrate and protect such a large, distributed diverse workforce.

Challenges

Given the inherent and growing risks associated with oil and gas companies, Wood needed a more efficient and effective crisis management response solution. Its previous solution used a combination of paper-based processes disparate systems. To solve their challenges, Wood sought a flexible web-based solution that could adapt to their needs as they evolved and allow for expansion to new regions.

"Wood considered 11 vendors for their new emergency management platform and after careful evaluation, selected five to present, and took two to the final stage, at which point they chose Juvare’s WebEOC platform."

The company needed the ability to log all incidents and the emergency response, as well as to have incident-specific logs only visible to persons with specific permissions. Another requirement identified was managing the company’s rotational on-call schedule of key emergency response personnel – referred to as Rotas. The new solution stores all Rotas in the system and allows staff members to self-manage crisis cover availability.
