Early wildfire detection and management with SenseNet

In a recent interview, the VP of business development at SenseNet discussed their innovative approach to early wildfire detection and management. Their platform utilizes sensor nodes and AI-based cameras to identify changes in environmental conditions and differentiate between smoke, dust, and fire. With the ability to detect fires within three minutes, the system automatically notifies local fire departments, enhancing response times and situational awareness. The integration of SenseNet data into emergency management systems like WebEOC aims to mitigate wildfire risks and protect communities. Ultimately, the goal is to save lives and safeguard critical infrastructure from the increasing threat of wildfires.

We can detect a fire within three minutes of it starting. Having a single pane of glass for an operations center, I know that all the sector agencies use Juvare and it’d be even more beneficial sort of to the end users, you know, within wildfire agencies or the fire departments, to have access to this information in a single pane of glass, such as the Juvare dashboard. Hi, everyone. I’m Andrew DeStefano.

I’m a VP of business development at SenseNet. We’re excited to, have partnered with Juvare. What we do is we specialize in early wildfire detection, management, and situational awareness. The key components of the, solution are the sensor nodes.

What they, have been designed to do is pick up changes in gases. For example, we have sensors that pick up nitrogen oxide levels, carbon levels, carbon dioxide levels. They can determine temperature, humidity. That is all real time data that’s being collected from the sensors and sent back to our platform.

The second component is the AI based cameras. And then when you couple that with the, the AI piece where we trained it to basically differentiate between smoke, dust, or other type of fire, a tent fire perhaps. The unique thing about the platform is that it can detect, and identify, or differentiate between different heat signatures. Imagine if you had a platform which, is constantly scanning the landscape twenty four-seven.

Most people when you watch the news, I think you, you hear of at least one or two major wildfires, a week. And, you know, it’s not just, you know, a North American problem, it’s a global issue. Brazil, Chile, Portugal, this summer were impacted. These sort of catastrophic wildfires are happening more often.

Unfortunately, with the rising temperatures, I think the trend will continue. And having sort of that peace of mind as well for your community that whenever there is smoke or fire detected, our platform will automatically notify a local fire department. What intrigued us about working with Juvare is the Juvare platform. Again, it’s looking at how do we provide sort of those additional insights to the first responders?

WebEOC is already a platform which is being used by cities and states to manage emergencies. We thought it would be just a natural progression to have the, SenseNet real time data and camera feeds integrated into WebEOC. So in terms of the, one of the key, sort of benefits of our solution is helping, city managers mitigate risk. What we found is that I’ve had this discussion with, you know, a number of fire chiefs.

Improving response time is always one of their key goals. Right? We can detect a fire within three minutes of it starting. We can send that notification to the fire department.

With our solution, what we’re looking to do there is to get that information right to the fire department right away, as soon as it happens, so that they can quickly mobilize a response. It’s all about improving response time, providing them with situational awareness so they can make some pretty quick decisions and, you know, save people’s lives. We’re really excited to be working with Juvare to bring our solution to Juvare clients as well. We do believe that we’re doing meaningful work.

I would really love to see this the adoption, of our solution. The goal is really to mitigate, the risks of wildfire and save people’s lives and protect critical infrastructure.
